The Gold Rush Cometh…
3 WORLD RECORDS

June 25 , 2004 - For Immediate Release

VINELAND, Ontario, Canada: Royal DeMaria Wines ‘Canada’s Icewine Specialists’ is thrilled to announce their 4th consecutive trophy winnings from the coveted Citadelles du Vin, VinExpo, Bordeaux, France, previously known as the Gran Prix d’Honneur and the Civart Trophy. Les Citadelles du Vin is the most prestigious wine and spirits exhibition in the world.

Royal DeMaria Wines has added to their collection 2 Citadelles Trophies for the Royal DeMaria 2000 Chardonnay Icewine and Royal DeMaria 2002 Merlot Icewine and 3 Excellence Trophies for Royal DeMaria 2002 Winter Harvest Muscat Ottonel, Royal DeMaria 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Icewine, and Royal DeMaria 2002 Vidal Icewine.

Joseph DeMaria’s Icewines have raised the bar within the international wine competition circuit by placing within the top 3 for the 4th consecutive year. Last year, Royal DeMaria broke a world record at Concours Mondial, Brussels, Belgium, the largest wine competition in the world, by winning 5 Gold medals within a category. Two years ago, the world took notice when Royal DeMaria broke another world record at Les Citadelles du Vin, VinExpo, Bordeaux, France bringing Canada 5 Citadelles du Vin trophies within a category. Royal DeMaria is the only winery in the world to win four consecutive Double Gold medals at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition in New York. DeMaria has garnered 171 medals within only 5 vintages including an incredible 63 golds within 52 international competitions, and winner of 8 Citadelles du Vin trophies a feat that has brought the world’s attention to Canadian wines.

“From the onset of my winemaking career I wanted to specialize in the production of icewine” says DeMaria. “Trademarking Royal DeMaria Wines ‘Canada’s Icewine Specialists’ compelled me to delve into the Ontario icewine industry and create icewine from grape varietals not traditionally used for icewine. I am particularly pleased with this year’s results because the winnings included three relatively new icewines, namely, Winter Harvest Muscat Ottonel, Merlot Icewine, and Cabernet Sauvignon Icewine”.

With 3 world-record setting wins and several international accolades to their credit, one New York Times wine columnist was quoted as saying “reviewing the winnings is like scrolling the Dow Jones.” One could say Royal DeMaria Wines is responsible for putting noble vinifera icewines on the world map for Canada. England’s Decanter magazine has quoted that the Royal DeMaria 2002 Meritage Icewine is thought to be the world’s first red Meritage Icewine and also the most expensive Icewine.

Royal DeMaria Wines’ vineyards are ideally situated between the Niagara Escarpment and Lake Ontario on Vineland, Ontario’s Iroquois Plains, the grounds of which are being recognized for producing some of the world’s finest wines.
